Trijuginarayan Temple – Complete History & Spiritual Significance
Location: Trijuginarayan Village, Ukhimath Tehsil, Rudraprayag District, Uttarakhand. The temple is located at an altitude of about 1980 meters (6500 feet) above sea level. It is around 12 kilometers from Guptkashi and approximately 5 kilometers off the Kedarnath route.
Mythological History:
Site of Lord Shiva and Parvati's Divine Wedding: Trijuginarayan is the sacred site where the celestial marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took place. The marriage was solemnized in the presence of Lord Vishnu, who performed the Kanyadaan (giving away the bride), while Lord Brahma acted as the chief priest (purohit). The divine wedding was conducted in the presence of sages (Saptarishis) and celestial beings, following proper Vedic rituals. This divine event is mentioned in the Skanda Purana and various other ancient Hindu scriptures.
Eternal Flame – Vivah Agni:
In front of the temple, there is a sacred fire pit (Yajna Kund) known as the Vivah Agni. It is believed that this is the same fire around which Lord Shiva and Parvati took their seven vows (saat phere). This flame has been burning continuously since that divine wedding. Devotees often take its holy ash (bhasma) as a blessing and souvenir.
Architecture and Structure:
The temple follows the traditional North Indian Himalayan architectural style, built with stone. The main sanctum (garbhagriha) houses a divine idol of Lord Narayan (Vishnu). In front of the sanctum lies a sacred pond (Saraswati Kund) considered highly auspicious. The complex also contains three other sacred ponds: Rudra Kund, Brahma Kund, Vishnu Kun

The place is connected to the Vedic age and derives its name from: Tri (three) + Yug (eras) + Narayan (Vishnu) Meaning: The place where Lord Vishnu resided in all three yugas (Satyug, Treta, Dwapar).

Nearest town: Guptkashi (12 km) The temple is easily accessible by local vehicles or taxis. It lies on a small diversion from the main Kedarnath route.
